Oregon recently passed The Clean Energy and Coal Transition Act which will force the state to slowly phase out the use of coal by enabling power companies in Oregon from purchasing coal based power by 2030. Oregon's goal overall is that 80% of there energy will be carbon-free by 2040. The process of this bill did face opposition by a few conservatives ,but through compromise an agreement of this bill was made by working together to create realistic time table that Oregon and the companies within could achieve together to move towards a greener, more sustainable future.
This article pertains to me personally because Oregon being the state of one of the possible colleges I am looking to attend , it pleases me to know that my possible future state of residence is environmentally conscious . This article relates to others because it is bills and laws like this that are blazing the trail towards a brighter healthier planet in our future. Oregon is leading by example and example that we should all take care to follow.
