Global warming is now putting another animal on the brink of extinction: Sea turtles. Sea turtles are born without an X or Y chromosome and it is during their development that their sex is defined. According to a four year study dine by Florida Atlantic university sea turtles sex closely depends on the temperature of their surroundings. Male sea turtles are defined by cold weather and females from warm weather. since their has been a vast temperature rise due to global warming recent studies are showing an alarming rate of more females to male ratio if this trend. continues sea turtles could become extinct due to their inability to reproduce.
This information is important due to the fact that humans are responsibly for the current rise in temperatures due to our pollution. Not only are we endangering the sea turtles but we could be endangering ourselves. We are all apart of the food web on this earth and certain animals play a more vital role in the food web than others if it so happens that these sea turtles are one of the vital links on the food web in a worst case scenario we could be looking at a mass extinction event .
