Studies from Dartmouth college are showing that climate change is resulting in a increase of mosquitoes. With this study, it is also estimated that if temperatures continue to rise even by 2 degrees Celsius then arctic mosquitoes chance of survival will increase by 50%. This increase in beneficial for mosquitoes ,but not so beneficial for arctic caribou. Mosquito are synchronized with caribou birthing season and with a rise in mosquitoes will have more vulnerable caves exposed to mosquitoes during this season directly impacting the caribous population.
These findings are important because of the change in role of these mosquitoes could impact "people and wildlife, as pollinators of tundra plants and as food for other species, including Arctic and migratory birds." This shift in the ecosystem of the arctic could not only impact their food chain and ecosystem but could eventually impact the entire ecosystem on a global scale.
