According to an article from Science Daily researchers are coming close to solving an intriguing question in ecology. A recent study done by Cody Dey who was completing his PhD in Biology at McMaster at the time of the research studied 6,000 species of birds and has come to the conclusion that despite the fact that it is not advantageous for the male bird to pass on colorful traits to the female birds it seems that through an oddity in the passage of genes despite their colorful father's females to seem to retain their more muted colors from their mothers allowing for better camouflage when the female sits in the nest to protect the eggs. The males on the other hand seem to be passing on the brightly colored traits despite the danger these bright colors present to attract predators. Dey has also hypothesized that topical birds have more bright and colored feathers due to the fact that they do not migrate.
This article is important because it allows for more understanding in evolution that will allow us to not only better understand these specific birds but other animals too. It is important to understand the animals that we share this earth with in order to better coexist. As humans we are the most invasive species and also have the most dierect impact upon the lives of the animals of this earth therefore it it our duty to not only maintain this earth but to see how we can make it flourish .
